PHEV Technology Explained
How do Mitsubishi PHEVs work?
Mitsubishi Motor’s Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) system combines both a pure electric and hybrid powertrain to bring low emissions, a quiet drive, responsive 4WD performance, instant torque and a long driving range.
It utilises a high-capacity battery located under the floor, coupled with front and rear electric motors, a 2.4L petrol engine and a generator. Depending on driving conditions and battery level, the plug-in hybrid powertrain automatically selects the optimum combination of EV and hybrid driving. All you have to do is enjoy the fuel-efficient motoring and outstanding performance.
PHEV Energy System.
At the heart of our PHEVs is technology that seamlessly merges the silent twin electric motors with the 2.4 litre MIVEC petrol engine. This delivers amazing torque and lightning-fast acceleration.
Multiple ways to charge.
Mitsubishi PHEVs can be charged at home using a standard 3-pin plug or fast-charged from one of the growing number of public EV charging stations. Fast charging allows the battery to be charged in approximately 38 minutes to reach an 80% charge. Or you can simply charge while you drive via regenerative braking.
PHEV Range.
You can use the energy flow information displayed on screen to simply monitor the vehicle’s efficiency and performance. Select EV mode to prioritise electric running or choose to engage the 2.4 litre MIVEC petrol engine to save or charge the battery. There’s no range anxiety, with the security of the petrol engine.
